As the COVID-19 Omicron sub-variants become dominant among new U.S. cases, data indicates virus testing and reporting is slowing down nationwide, according to the New York Times.

As new cases and deaths remain low compared to previous outbreak peaks, public testing sites run by state and local governments have closed.

Many states have also stopped reporting daily updates, reports the NYT.

Experts warn community spread is still high.

Most positive COVID-19 results are coming from home test kits, which are not included in official data.
