Forensics teams are investigating how 21 youths died inside a poorly-ventilated tavern in East London, South Africa, where they were celebrating the end of their mid-year exams. 

The mysterious circumstances of the tragedy have captivated the nation, with many guessing that the deaths were caused by something inhaled or ingested.South Africans, including President Cyril Ramaphosa, expressed their grief on Wednesday as funeral services were conducted form most of the victims.  

The youngest to die was a 13-year-old, Thembinkosi Silwane.

“They each had beautiful dreams. They each had a bright future ahead of them,” President Cyril Ramaphosa said in a speech at a funeral for 19 of the victims on Wednesday.
