Over the weekend, throngs of protesters took over the Presidential palace in Colombo, Sri Lanka, demanding that both the president and prime minister resign from their jobs.

Though the leaders both announced their resignations, the country is still in political limbo as an economic and social crisis continues to affect the country. Here’s what happened in Sri Lanka and how it took such a dire turn.
