More than half of Portugal is under high alert for hazardous weather because of high temperatures fueling wildfires across the region.

Hundreds of firefighters have been deployed to fight fires in central Portugal, CBC reports.

Around 1,600 firefighters are tackling 19 active blazes, shows the civil protection website.
