A wide range of reactions are emerging on Thursday following the controversial decision of the Austin American-Statesman to publish security video from inside Robb Elementary School during and after the attack by a gunman that killed 19 children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas.

Law enforcement has credited a tactical team for eventually storming the classroom and killing the gunman, but the nearly hour and a half of events beforehand were captured on cameras outside of the classrooms.

Immediately following the May 24 massacre, Texas Governor Abbott praised the police response, but later said “the information I was given turned out, in part, to be inaccurate, and I am absolutely livid about that.”

Family members of the victims have been seeking transparency regarding the failures of the police response, but many were shocked to find the footage online this week.

“The truth always wins, maybe not on our clock, but the truth always prevails.” The Austin American-Statesman said of their decision to publish the footage.
