The number of confirmed monkeypox cases in the United States is fast approaching 2,000, across 45 states and territories.

Health officials say, unconfirmed cases could be far more, and that, cluster events like music festivals and pool parties and bathhouses, appear to be hotbeds for the virus.

Without any testing or treatment capabilities and only a very limited vaccine supply, containing the outbreak has been an uphill battle.
