The U.S. Northwest is trudging through a week-long heat wave.

On Tuesday, temperatures in Portland, Oregon could top 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 Celsius), prompting some areas to open cooling centers.

Parts of Oregon and Washington state are also under an excessive heat warning.

Meanwhile, a heatwave on the U.S. East coast appears to have broken, with temperatures in some cities dipping into the 80s compared to previous days of around 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
