Tears were shed on Wednesday as parents and survivors of those killed in the 2018 Parkland, Florida high school shooting gave their victim impact statements to a crowded courtroom.

The death penalty trial continues for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooter Nikolas Cruz at the Broward County Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The trial has entered the penalty phase for Cruz, who pleaded guilty last year to 17 counts of murder and 17 counts of attempted murder in the 2018 mass shooting.  

Survivors of those killed shared the depths of their losses, with many surmising where their loved ones would be today had they not been killed by Cruz.
