The worst fire in the history of Cuba has finally been contained after firefighters from Cuba and Mexico brought the massive blaze at an oil storage depot under control on Tuesday.

The fire, sparked by a lightning strike in Matanzas, burned for almost five days and destroyed close to 40 percent of the island’s primary fuel storage site.

The impact of the disaster is still being assessed by investigators on Wednesday. The damage is expected to be extensive following the fire’s spread through four crude oil storage tanks.
