To date, drug companies Pfizer and Moderna have refused to share the formula behind the most cutting-edge COVID-19 vaccines. 

The two pharma giants use mRNA, a vaccine technology that instructs human cells to make a protein that triggers an immune response to the disease. 

But two Brazilian scientists are developing an mRNA vaccine that could challenge this.
