Few Brazilians aware of country’s dark ties to slavery

UNESCO, the United Nation’s Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has designated August 23rd the International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition.

In Brazil, the last nation in the world to abolish slavery, a slave port was declared a UNESCO heritage site.

Nevertheless, relatively few Brazilians, are aware of its true significance.
