Outdoor dining was credited with keeping the restaurant industry alive during the worst days of the pandemic, when indoor space was closed or severely restricted.

Now, New York City is weighing whether to make the temporary sidewalk seating more permanent amid legal challenges from residents who say noisy nightlife is ruining local communities.
