They are perhaps the most recognizable figures of the United Nations, but the job of peacekeepers is becoming increasingly difficult and dangerous.

There have been violent protests against some blue helmet missions, while funding from UN member states has waned in recent years.

In response, peacekeepers are now adapting to focus more on conflict prevention.
