Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi meets with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Carlos Faria on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

Wang Yi says that it is believed that under the leadership of President Nicolas Maduro, Venezuela will achieve greater achievements for the country’s development. The Chinese will firmly support the Venezuela in safeguarding national sovereignty, social stability, and national dignity, and firmly support the Venezuelan people in choosing the development path independently.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Carlos Faria says that Venezuela cherishes China's long-term strong support, and thanks China for its timely help in Venezuela's fight against the epidemic, helping Venezuela to achieve universal vaccination and protect people's lives and health.

Venezuela firmly supports China in safeguarding its national sovereignty and legitimate rights and interests, and firmly opposes some countries who maliciously create problems and interfering in China's internal affairs.

Venezuela is willing to consolidate friendship and deepen cooperation with China to inject new impetus into bilateral relations. Venezuela proposed to hold a meeting of the "Group of Friends to Defend the UN Charter” and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China in multilateral affairs to defeat sanctions and coercion by hegemonic countries.
