On Thursday, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on the sidelines of the general debate of the UNGA 77 in New York.

Wang Yi said that since the meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries in Bali, the practical cooperation between the two sides has made a lot of progress, sending out positive signals and demonstrating the potential and resilience of China-Germany relations. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Germany 50 years ago, the two countries have known each other and the all-round cooperation has continued to advance, benefiting both peoples.

There is no fundamental conflict of interest between China and Germany, and we should strengthen communication and enhance understanding. The two sides should make good preparations for high-level exchanges and inter-governmental consultations, comprehensively sort out cooperation in various fields, and plan the development of bilateral relations for the next 50 years.

Under the current situation, it is of great significance for China and Germany to further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership. China is willing to work with Germany to play its due responsibilities as a major country and make China-Germany contributions to peaceful development.

Baerbock said that Germany adheres to the one-China policy and attaches great importance to maintaining high-level exchanges and cooperation in various fields. China is an important global force. Germany appreciates that China has set ambitious emission reduction targets and played an exemplary role in coping with climate change. Germany is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in green transformation and innovative development, show leadership in areas such as the realization of the temperature control goals of the Paris Agreement, and jointly address global challenges.

The two sides exchanged views on the Ukraine issue. Wang Yi expounded on the four points proposed by President Xi Jinping on Ukraine, saying that China has always insisted on persuading peace and promoting talks. The international community should make concerted efforts to jointly promote a ceasefire and stop the conflict, so that peace can come at an early date, and at the same time, deal with urgent humanitarian issues and the negative effects of crisis spillovers.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
