Relatives of the 36 victims killed in a naptime massacre at a daycare center in northeastern Thailand gathered at a mass, royally-sponsored funeral in Uthai Sawan on Saturday.
Pictures of those killed, 24 of whom were young children, were displayed on their coffins. Some mourners traditionally stayed through the night, a customary practice for those who died young.
Buddhist monks held prayer services as families mourned.
Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida visit the injured and relatives on Friday night at Nong Bua Lam Phu hospital, promising help and extending condolences.
“I want to give you all moral support to be strong, so that the souls of those children can have a sense of relief that their families will remain strong and be able to move forward.” King Maha Vajiralongkorn said.
