Mexican President seeks to extend military use as public security

Mexico's President Andreas Manuel-Obrador is seeking approval from the country's congressional bodies to extend the use of the nation's military as a public security force until 2028, which he believes will help in the fight against organized crime groups. 

While the Mexican President believes this to be necessary in combating organized crime groups, some opposition leaders view this move as a potential issue, as they argue soldiers trained for combat could commit human rights abuses.
