Tropical Storm Nicole weakened after crossing the Florida Panhandle and into the eastern U.S. all the way to Canada on Friday. In its wake, five people were killed when it hit the east coast of Florida as a Category 1 hurricane earlier this week.

Many homes along the coast were damaged, some ripped apart from the rain and winds. Thousands are still without power and dozens of buildings were declared uninhabitable after water damaged their foundations. At Cape Canaveral, engineers are also examining possible damage to the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion crew capsule.

The hurricane was the first in November to make landfall in Florida in 37 years and came on the heels of Hurricane Ian, which hit the Gulf Coast and killed more than 130 people.
