Singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper performed on Tuesday at the White House following U.S. President Joe Biden’s signing of the Respect for Marriage Act on Tuesday.
Supporters and activists gathered on the White House lawn to celebrate the new law that ensures federal recognition of same-sex and interracial marriages.
The Act was brought forward out of concern that the U.S. Supreme Court could one day reverse its support for the legal recognition of such relationships, similarly to the way it reversed federal protection of the right to abortion in 2022.
