While femicide hit an all-time high in Brazil during the first half of 2022 – at an average of four deaths per day - the budget allocated to help combat violence against women was the lowest since at least 2016.
This was no surprise to a Rio de Janeiro NGO who has been tackling gender-based violence for the past three decades.
