Officials in Southern California consider seceding from rest of state

Officials in a Southern California county have started looking into the prospects of breaking free from the nation’s most populous and richest state to form a new one.

This follows an advisory ballot proposal that was narrowly approved back in November.

County officials cite “inadequate state funding” as the main reason behind this attempt to secede from California. 

But how likely are they to form a 51st state and what would this move mean for its residents.
