The village of Secocha in southern Peru was hit by a deadly landslide that brought down houses and submerged streets in mud.
The landslide triggered by heavy rains in the Arequipa region killed at least 15 people, including three children, local authorities reported on Tuesday, February 7, Reuters reports.
At the same time, protestors in Puno, Peru blocked a road to cut off access to the country's mineral and tourism-rich region while demanding Peru's President Dina Boluarte step down.
Protests, in large part organized by the poorer people of the country, have been ongoing since the ousting of former President Pedro Castillo, who also came from humble means.
