Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan says the death toll from the deadly earthquakes in the country has passed 35,000, as of Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Thousands more are believed to be dead in Syria, although figures are harder to come by due to the ongoing war.

Turkey has issued over 110 arrest warrants for people it says are tied to substandard construction projects which led to building collapses. At least a dozen people are already in custody.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says he will let the UN aid agency access for three months to provide quake aid through two border crossings from Turkiye.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement that the use of the Bab Al-Salam and Al Ra'ee crossings will, "allow more aid to go in, faster".
