A year after Russia began its special military operation in Ukraine, many parts of the former Soviet state are in ruins.
Nearly 7,200 civilians have officially been killed, of them over 430 were children, and over 11,750 civilians injured, according to a new report from the UN which states the actual number may be much higher.
The number of Russian casualties could be as high as 270,000, according to various media reports and the U.S. government. Russia has not released official figures of the number of soldiers killed or wounded in action.
The UN reports that over 8 million Ukrainian refugees have fled across Europe, or about 20 percent of the country’s population.
