Heavy rains have caused devastating floods and landslides in the coastal areas of Brazil's southeastern Sao Paulo state, resulting in a death toll of 54 people as of Friday, Feb. 24.

The city of Sao Sebastiao has been the hardest hit, with 53 reported deaths. The Sao Paulo state government has warned of more rain on Friday. Search and rescue operations continue as dozens are still missing. Over 4,000 people have been displaced from their homes.

Local officials have urged tourists to avoid traveling to the affected region to prevent overloading hospitals, roads, and supplies.

The Brazilian Navy has sent a ship equipped with helicopters, landing vehicles, and hospital beds to assist with rescue efforts on Thursday.
