A physical altercation broke out among Georgian lawmakers during a parliamentary committee meeting to discuss a bill on "foreign agents" on Monday, March 6.
During the meeting, the leader of the opposition United National Movement party was allegedly struck by the chairman of the legal affairs committee.
The governing Georgian Dream bloc has declared its support for the bill, which still needs to go through several stages of approval before becoming law.
Detractors have likened the legislation to a 2012 Russian law that has been expanded over time and utilized to suppress Russian independent media and civil society.
The law has been viewed by critics as emblematic of Georgia's authoritarian shift.
