At least 400 Israeli settlers launched an attack on Palestinian villages in Nablus, including Hawara, on February 26.
During the assault, one man was killed, and hundreds of others were injured. The settlers set fire to more than 30 homes and over 100 cars while assaulting Palestinians with metal rods and rocks. Six settlers were arrested, according to Israeli media.
On March 1, Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s finance minister, who is also responsible for civil administration in the occupied West Bank, stated that Hawara should be "wiped out."
