Israeli border police said its undercover unit was involved in a raid early on Thursday to arrest a Palestinian man suspected of involvement in several shooting attacks, but killed the man in his home when they say he aimed a weapon at them.

The man who was killed was named Amir Abu Khadijeh, 25, and was reportedly one of the founders of a new group fighting against the illegal military occupation of Palestinian territories called the "Tulkarem Brigade."

The group called his killing an "assassination."

For Palestinians living under occupation, Ramadan has been especially difficult in recent years, with Israeli forces clamping down on their movement, and limiting access to Muslim spiritual spaces including Al Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem.

Violence in the West Bank has also been spiraling out of control in recent months, with nearly daily Israeli military raids, attacks from Jewish settlers on Palestinian towns, and attacks by Palestinians.

Recently Israeli and Palestinian representatives met in Egypt, agreeing to de-escalations, but the raids by the Israeli military raise has not stopped.
