On March 28, 2023, Charge d'Affaires Xu Xueyuan was invited to visit Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia, met with Tracy Fitzsimmons, the president of the school, and interacted with teachers and students of the school.

Xu fully affirmed the exchange and cooperation between the school and China, and appreciated that it still actively seeks exchanges and cooperation with Chinese universities under the influence of the tense bilateral relations and the epidemic of the century.

The friendship between the two people has made positive contributions. The school also expressed its willingness to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Chinese partner institutions to enhance educational and cultural exchanges in the post-epidemic era.

During the visit, Xu and her party enjoyed the wonderful performances of musical instruments and vocal music by the teachers and students of the School of Music and gave speeches. Xu pointed out that China is an ancient and young country with a long history and splendid culture.

“Ancient scientific and technological innovations have greatly promoted the development of human society. The natural scenery, art and food are deeply loved by people from all over the world," Xu said. "Since the reform and opening up, China has gradually developed into the world's second largest economy, and has achieved world-renowned achievements: winning the battle against poverty as scheduled, leading the world in high-speed rail speed, extremely convenient electronic payment, and young people's innovation and entrepreneurship in full swing, etc.”

Xu also said that China is still a developing country, and the 1.4 billion Chinese people are vigorously building their own country and living a better life.

China has always been committed to developing a healthy and stable Sino-U.S. relationship, promoting mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation between the two countries, Xu added.

Later, Xu visited the school's immersive learning center, e-sports major and other special projects.

Founded in 1875, Shenandoah University has developed from a small seminary in the early days to a private university with 4,000 students. It has trained many outstanding graduates. Students come from 47 states in the United States and 42 countries around the world including China.
