China's Deputy Consul General in New York Qian Jin clarified China's position on the Taiwan issue and answered questions from local media regarding Tsai Ing-wen's U.S. stopover. He said Tsai’s stopover in the U.S. brought instability to the Taiwan Strait and create trouble for U.S.-China relations.

People in New York protested outside Tsai’s hotel. More than 100 overseas Chinese held signs with slogans about “one China” and “peaceful reunification”.

Some protesters stated that Tsai Ing-wen's attempt to seek independence with the help of the United States would not succeed, and they would continue to protest.
