Police officers stepped in to protect Buenos Aires’ Province Security Minister Sergio Berni, who was assaulted by a mob of angry bus drivers that were protesting the murder of a colleague on Monday, April 3 in Argentina.

The minister was punched in the face and repeatedly kicked and beaten by the demonstrators, who say crime is overrunning La Matanza city.  Berni arrived to the protest at the bus terminal to discuss with the bus drivers solutions to crack down on the violence, when he was violently assaulted.

Bus drivers had stopped working in response to the killing of bus driver Daniel Barrientos in the Virrey del Pino neighborhood.
