The FBI announced the arrest of a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard in connection to the leak of highly classified military documents on the conflict in Ukraine and U.S. relations with other countries.

Investigators believe the guardsman, identified as 21-year-old Jack Teixeira of Swansea, Mass., led a chat group where the documents were posted. The guardsman specialized in intelligence, two people familiar with the investigation told the AP on anonymity.

The National Guard did not confirm the guardsman's identity but released a statement that "We are aware of the investigation into the alleged role a Massachusetts Air National Guardsman may have played in the recent leak of highly classified documents."

The Washington Post reported that the individual who leaked the information shared documents with a small group of friends on the chat platform, Discord.

The files have publicized the potential vulnerabilities of Ukraine's air defense capabilities. The leaks have also shown U.S. spying on allies, including South Korea and Israel.

The Pentagon is tightening the circle of employees and contracts and promised to review its policy in granting top secret clearance.
