In an eleventh-hour resolution, Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems privately reached a $787.5 million settlement in the $1.6 billion defamation case Dominion brought against the network.

Dominion disclosed the settlement figure on Tuesday following the surprise announcement.

“We acknowledge the court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false.” Fox said in a statement.  “We are hopeful that our decision to resolve this dispute with Dominion amicably, instead of the acrimony of a divisive trial, allows the country to move forward from these issues.”

It is one of the largest defamation settlements in history.  Dominion had argued that on-air false statements by Fox News guests and correspondents claiming the company’s ballot-counting machines were used to manipulate the 2020 presidential election caused the company “enormous and irreparable economic harm.”
