More than a billion people marked Saturday, April 22, as Earth Day, the largest secular holiday in the world.

The Earth Day theme for 2023 is “Invest in Our Planet." 

Earth Day was first established in 1970 after  a peace activist at a UNESCO conference in San Francisco proposed a holiday to honor the Earth and the concept of peace.

Since then it has spread to more than 190 countries and territories, becoming the world’s largest environmental movement, highlighting the essential solidarity of humankind in protecting the environment we live in.Climate literacy, tree planting, sustainable fashion, ending plastic waste, cleaning up trash, and political activity are all ways EarthDay.org suggests people can “invest in our planet,” through their actions.
