Lawyers for E. Jean Carroll have rested her civil case against former U.S. President Donald Trump, following the presentation of a deposition video in which Trump appeared to confuse E. Jean Carroll with his ex-wife, Marla Maples.

The video is considered significant, as Trump had previously argued that he would not have assaulted Carroll because she "wasn't his type." The footage of Trump mistaking a younger Carroll for a woman he married could potentially challenge that claim.

The defense has also rested its case, but the judge has left the door open for Trump, who previously said he wouldn't appear in person, to testify in his own defense. He has until 5 p.m. Sunday May 7 to change his mind.

Many people have expressed support for E. Jean Carroll as she shares her story, while others have called the accusations politically motivated.
