The teen birthrate in the U.S. slid 3% in 2022 to a new all-time low, but the decrease was smaller than in previous years suggesting a possible plateau, according to a report from the CDC.
Experts believe that access to contraception and comprehensive sex education have contributed to the drop in teen birth rates, which are now down almost 80% from early 1990s levels.
The report also showed that birth rates among women aged 35-39 increased by 2%, and by 4% for women aged 40-44 last year.
The overall birthrate in the U.S. is down by less than 1% for the year, continuing a downward trend observed since 2007, aside from a small increase in 2021.
