Congress is facing fresh demands to ban assault weapons in the United States, in the wake of what President Joe Biden says is a gun “epidemic.”
In California, Governor Gavin Newsom is seeking an amendment to the Constitution that would restrict gun ownership. And in Washington, D.C., dozens of gun violence survivors and mourners are taking part in a seven-day demonstration on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, calling for a vote to end the sales of semi-automatic firearms.
However, they’re being met with stiff resistance from federal lawmakers inside. Benji Hyer reports.
