In Colombia four children were lost in the jungle for 40 days. Their plane crashed and the adults on board died, leaving them to fend for themselves. Now details are emerging about their miraculous survival.

"I'm hungry" and "My mom died" – the first words of the children lost in the Amazon.

Rescuers recall finding the children in the jungle, 40 days after their plane crashed.

Search team member Nicolas Ordonez Gomes said, "The second thing he said was, 'I'm hungry, I want flour, with chorizo and sausage.'"

On May 1st, their single-engine propeller plane crashed after the pilot reported engine failure. The plane carried the four children, their mother, an Indigenous leader, and the pilot. When the plane was found only the bodies of the three dead adults were recovered.

The children say their mother initially survived and died four days after the crash.

The children range in ages from one to 13.

The eldest, Lesly, guided her siblings through the ordeal.
