Smoke from Canadian wildfires has reached as far as Europe this week, while cities in the American Midwest continue to grapple with unbreathable and dangerous air.

Fires have been raging in the forests of Quebec for more than six weeks, skyrocketing Canada’s emissions to more than 140 million tonnes.

A haze blanketed skylines in Spain and France on Tuesday, June 27, while the U.S. city of Chicago had the “worst air quality in the world” due to the smoke.

It is the worst fire season Canada has ever seen.
