Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, also a U.S. presidential hopeful, recently signed more than 200 bills into law, impacting immigration, abortion, education and gun control in the state. 

Florida’s agricultural industry is already reporting a labor shortage this week after a new immigration law took effect on Saturday, July 1. 

Florida businesses are now required to validate a person’s eligibility to work in the U.S. and can face heavy fines.

Knowingly transporting an undocumented person who has illegally entered the U.S. can be a third-degree felony in Florida under the new law.

Unauthorized people utilizing fake identification can be charged with a third-degree felony under the new law.

Mexico’s Foreign Ministry in a statement said the law could prompt xenophobia and racial profiling, and give rise to hostile environments, intimidation and hate crimes.
