Study finds American cities sinking from “underground climate change”

It has been well documented that the city of Venice, Italy, is sinking by as much as two millimeters each year. 

But a new study suggests that many other cities around the world are also sinking due to a phenomenon called underground climate change.

Researchers at Northwestern University found that the ground beneath major cities is heating up so much that it’s becoming deformed and that could ultimately cause infrastructure to crack.
