The Israel parliament ratified controversial curbs to the country’s Supreme Court, a part of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s overhaul of the judicial system.
Since its introduction in January, protests and unrest against the reforms have continued throughout Israel, as opponents have called the move by the right-wing government a threat to democracy and a power grab.
Despite Netanyahu’s current political struggles, including facing charges of corruption, the law passed the Knesset 64-0. Opposition lawmakers abandoned the parliament before the vote in protest after compromise talks broke down.
