A group of people could be seen on Thursday skirting the floating barriers erected by the state of Texas in the Rio Grande river.

The large buoys, with razor wire strung between, are meant to deter illegal migration.

The U.S. Department of Justice is currently suing Texas to take down the buoys at its own expense.

The suit alleges the state put up the buoys without the permission of  United States Army Corps of Engineers.

Texas Governor Abbott says the buoys and concertina wire are intended to stop the flow of migrants crossing illegally into the state from Mexico.  The Biden administration issued new asylum policies in May.

Close to 100,000 people were apprehended in June for attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border.
