Former U.S. President Donald Trump was taken into custody at Fulton County Jail on state charges pertaining to alleged conspiracies to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. 

What's next for Trump and his co-defendants?

While Trump faces charges in four different criminal cases, this was his first experience having a mugshot taken.The counts against him in Georgia total 13, including racketeering and multiple charges of fraud and false statement. 

Alongside him, 18 co-defendants have also surrendered. Among these co-defendants are several high-profile individuals such as his former personal lawyer and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. 

What's next for Trump and his co-defendants?

All but one of the co-defendants secured their release on bond. Harrison Floyd, director of "Black Voices for Trump" during the 2020 campaign, remains behind bars.

Trump expressed sympathy for his co-defendants in an interview with Newsmax, suggesting that they had been unfairly dragged into the case and that their lives were adversely impacted by the criminal charges. He emphasized that some of his co-defendants were not financially well-off, and despite his own billionaire status, Trump has not publicly offered to assist with their legal defense fees.

What's next for Trump and his co-defendants?

Following his booking, Trump took to X (formerly known as Twitter) for the first time since Jan. 8, 2021, to post his mugshot with the captions "ELECTION INTERFERENCE" and "NEVER SURRENDER." Previously, Trump was a prolific user of Twitter during his presidency until he was banned in the wake of the U.S. Capitol riot.
