U.S. poverty rate shows record jump

The latest figures from the U.S. Census Bureau show the poverty rate rose to 12.4 percent in 2022 in what appears to be the largest one-year jump on record.
Inflation drove living costs up at a time when federal programs that provided aid to families during the COVID-19 pandemic were expiring.
