Eight Republicans voted with 208 Democrats to remove Kevin McCarthy from his position as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, October 3.
The 216 to 210 vote marks the first time in U.S. history that the House removed its leader, after a rebellion was led by Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who accused the party leader of not doing enough to cut federal spending.
No successor has emerged.
