Air pollution in California and other parts of the Western United States has been getting worse at a time when national levels have improved.
Los Angeles in particular is under a spotlight for ranking as the worst city in the nation for ozone pollution in a recent report by the American Lung Association.
So it's with special concern that state officials and corporate sponsors mark California Clean Air Day every year in early October.
