Far from Israel, families in Thailand are desperately awaiting word of their loved ones in Israel.  

At least 20 Thai migrant workers were among those killed in Israel on Saturday in a coordinated attack by Hamas militants, and many more are missing.

Thailand’s foreign ministry says as many as 6,000 Thais are seeking to return home from Israel.

Close to 30,000 Thais, mostly from rural areas, work in Israel’s agriculture sector, where many are underpaid and exposed to dangerous conditions. 

Thailand’s foreign ministry  said it did not have any information about the hostages’ conditions but believed that they would not be harmed.

Thailand and Philippines are among the largest sources of migrant workers for Israel.
