Republican Rep. Jim Jordan’s dream of becoming Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives finally came to an end after he lost a third vote on the House floor on Friday, Oct. 20. In the third round of voting, 25 of his fellow Republican lawmakers voted against the hardline conservative from Ohio.

Republicans then held a closed-door meeting where they voted to revoke Jordan’s nomination.

Democrats have described Jordan as a dangerous extremist and have consistently unanimously voted against him.

Republicans will now have to start the process over on Monday to select a nominee.

Until a House speaker is elected, the leaderless chamber will be unable to legislate on matters that include President Biden’s request for aid to Israel and Ukraine.
