Temu is the latest Chinese shopping site to take the Internet by storm, attracting customers with a seemingly limitless range of products and low prices.
The online marketplace has quickly topped app charts in many countries, including the United States, launching there in 2022 and capturing more than half the U.S. market share of its closest rival, the fast fashion giant Shein, also Chinese-owned.
With inflation still on the high side, Temu’s appeal is clear — but lawmakers in Washington are expressing concern of the retailer’s environmental impact and business practices. Benji Hyer reports.
